Director General of the National Television Company of Ukraine Zurab Alasania informed members of the Committee about priority steps and tasks of the television company’s development. Considerable attention was paid to the content of the bill on Public Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine since, according to the rapporteur, “provisions of this document, in case of its adoption by the Verkhovna Rada, will be directing the company’s work”.
Z. Alasania also informed that televised debates of candidates for the post of the President of Ukraine are scheduled for May, respective technical work is being carried out now: financial issues are being settled, consultations with the Central Election Commission are being conducted, etc.
Chairman of the subcommittee on television and radio broadcasting Mykola Kniazhytskyi claims prohibiting advertisement in the air of public broadcasting service requires 100% of state’s funding, which, according to him, “casts doubt regarding quality of the content”. Addressing Director General of the National Television Company of Ukraine, M. Kniazhytskyi called for fundamental changes in the company’s work.
Chair of the Committee Mykola Tomenko assured that developing “a formula for ensuring efficient work of public broadcasting” was and still is the most topical issue of the Committee’s work.
